I never like to do things the "traditional way" because I usually find them boring. Things become traditional for various reasons, but I like to discover if what is traditional for others works for me. For example, I found a great link on tying shoe laces (here). Sure we all learned to tie our shoes at an early age, but why can't even our personal "lace taste" evolve? I like the Ian Knot. I also tied my daughter's cheer leading shoes with some funky look, but it made them hard to figure-out how to tighten. :)
My point: I am now interested in researching various types of glue to use on building my son's Starwars Lego kits. Rather than going with the recommended model airplane glue, I've started with Loctite... and it does. It allows no wiggle room on plastic-to-plastic bonding, and it bonds wicked fast.
I appreciate the argument: why glue the model when half the fun is (re)building the model? I'll tell you why... Star Wars Lego kits include a specific set of pieces, most of which are small and seemingly unique to the particular kit. To me, the point is to build the specific model. Besides, it's more fun to play with the AT-AT knowing particular parts will not snap off, but that it will hold together as built.
I'll post pictures when done.
