And you may ask yourself...

... well... how did I get here?

For those of you that grew-up in the 80's the Talking Heads is a quintessential 80's band. Also for those of you who grew-up in the 80's were most likely raised by Vietnam-era 'boomers parents, who were in turn raised by depression/post-depression/WWII era parents.

I mention this because we 80's kids were raised by parents who wanted to give their children more than they had... more opportunities... more "things."

And then we went to college where Credit Card companies pandered their "wares" to those of kids who liked to indulge in "things." Hey... that's how we were raised.

"And you may find yourself in another part of the world."

And then we got real jobs, and some of us experienced the Dotcom increase in wealth... and then the dotbom decrease in hopes & dreams.

"And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile."

And then we could afford more things and bigger houses... and now the credit crunch has eaten into the equity of most people's homes, 401(k)'s, IRAs, etc.

"And you may find yourself in a beautiful house."

And then we live through the Iraq Conflict (note: it's not a war, but an authorization of force) that has cost us over $600 billion that our children and grandchildren will have to repay.

"And you may ask yourself..."

And prices of oil and gold are at all-time record highs, and yet homes are foreclosed upon at alarming rates. People are going back to work and staying work much longer than they had anticipated or planned for.

"well, how did I get here?"

And everything old is new again. Maybe we should be saving/working/appreciating as our grandparents did? Here's a good article on becoming an expert: link
