Most of you are aware of the vast openness of the Texas Sky. Being raised here, particularly North Texas, I have a special appreciation for just how awesome it is. Below is a picture I took around 5:10pm on Friday, November 14, 2008, facing East (so the sun was setting behind me).
You may not notice from my camera phone, but the sky is a pale red, and the clouds are in a formation called "wave clouds." I'm really writing this post because of the wave clouds. They are common, but I've seen some spectacular wave clouds in Texas that I just didn't see while living in Michigan. They are a bit different than these wave clouds:
seen over Mount Shasta.
Another favorite of mine are crepuscular rays, aka "sun rays," you see peeking down from the sky and typically through or around clouds:
Last point, DFW is wickedly windy. In fact it is windier than Chicago, which people incorrectly believe is caused by wind, rather than everyone, i.e., wind-bags, talking about Chicago. Case in point:
