I put the 1G dongle on my Pi this month (on March 10) and you can see it peaks just shy of 300 Mbps (max was 291.27 Mbps on March 21)! I read it wont read over 300 Mbps because of the USB connectivity on the Raspberry Pi. The latest Pi can support 1G ethernet from the stats I've seen. So it looks like to get actual 1Gig, you need to have the right connections, cables, NICs, etc., to handle the speed.
